DIYAbility is now an Approved Provider of Continuing Education Activities for AOTA
What is AOTA?
AOTA is the American Occupational Therapy Association. It was established in 1917 to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students of occupational therapy and to improve the quality of occupational therapy services (www.aota.org). AOTA represents occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistants, and occupational therapy students. It promotes education for practitioners and students in the field of occupational therapy (OT) and lobbies to promote the field of OT. AOTA educates the public and advances the profession by providing resources, setting standards, and serving as an advocate to improve health care. AOTA is based in Bethesda, MD (www.aota.org). One of the ways that AOTA advances the profession of occupational therapy is by offering continuing education acitvities and certifying continuing education providers.
Continuing education and occupational therapy.
Continuing education is very improtant in the field of occupational therapy. It is necessary for the practitioner to enhance their current practice skills as well as enables them to learn new skills. Additionally, the majority of states require that occupational therapists participate in a minimum number of hours in order to maintain their license to practice OT. These continuing education credits are obtained through approved providers.
Through a stringent application process, providers must demonstrate that they pocess the ability to adequately educate OT learners. It is for this reason that DIYAbility is proud to annouce that we are now APPROVED PROVIDERS FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES through AOTA.
Occupational therapists that choose to take a DIYAbility workshop will not only learn new skills in the areas of assistive technology but continuing education credits will also be obtained. All occupational therapists that take a DIYAbility workshop will be provided with a certificate of attendance as documentation of their participation. DIYAbility will structure its workshops to enhance the skills of all learners that attend. If you have any questions or there is an area of interest in the field of assistive technology that you would like to see as a provided workshop, please email us at [email protected]
We look forward to providing education not only to occupational therapists but physical therapist, speech language pathologists, recreational therapists, educators, music therapists, and community members.
